Peterson Engineering - About Us
Peterson Engineering’s Sky Division was formed after Pete, a lifelong stargazer, purchased a 10” Meade LX200 in 1999, and needed improvements to satisfy his personal stargazing requirements.
Incorporated in 1992, Peterson Engineering designed and fabricated fairly sophisticated industrial robots. So Pete had significant design and fabrication capability, and once an improvement was brainstormed, designed and fabricated it didn’t take much more effort to produce it in volume. So the Sky Division was created in 2000 to make these upgrades available to friends throughout the stargazing community.
As a very satisfied Meade owner, Pete has focused on upgrades to the big Meade SCTs. But as other significant astro community needs became apparent, they would be addressed as well.
We happily field a lot of questions from people needing equipment help and guidance. Not all product ideas are generated in-house. Customers and other members of the astronomy community regularly provide us with feedback and ideas. And if we go forward with prototypes they act as Beta testers for the development and evaluation of new stuff.
Peterson Engineering currently manufactures and sells a variety of products associated with specific astronomy product – primarily upgrades for large SCT telescopes and a mount for large binoculars. And Pete remains very active teaching courses out of his Wishing Star Observatory, tracking asteroids for the Minor Planet Center, coordinating public outreach events and occasionally functioning as a guest lecturer at local colleges and universities.
