Dwarf Mini

The EZ Mount is designed to take advantage of Dwarf Lab’s equatorial mode firmware.  Setup of the equatorial EZ Mount is wonderfully quick and simple.

Lightweight and compact, the thick rigid 6061 aircraft aluminum alloy offset arm is custom formed to your latitude.

Dwarf Lab software does not require ultra precise equatorial alignment.  If the tripod is leveled the latitude-customized mount should be accurate to within a degree.  And accurate azimuth adjustment is achieved simply by swiveling the mount at the point where it attaches to the tripod.  A tripod leveling base is unnecessary.  Experience shows that  if one leg of the tripod is oriented north or south it’s best to eliminate the leveling base and to make fine declination adjustment by adjusting the leg angle or leg height.

The EZ Mount places the scope center of gravity over the tripod’s center maximizing stability.  No need for a massive tripod or a counterweight – Seestar’s supplied tripod is balanced and works just as well.

The EZ Mount positions the telescope lower/closer to the tripod than a conventional telescope wedge, and the closer the scope is positioned to the the tripod head the less the leverage for wind induced vibration.

Mounting the scope takes only seconds.   The mounting hardware is provided for tripods with both 3/8-inch and 1/4-inch mounting studs.  No extra adapters or modifications are required.

Equatorial (EQ) Mode on the DWARF MINI lets you track deep-sky objects smoothly by aligning the telescope with Earth’s rotation.  Tracking in EQ mode is more accurate and there is no frame rotation.  Exposures longer than 30 seconds will not be rejected by the live stacking software due to star trails.  Frames do not rotate so there is no need to crop corners when stacking for an hour or more.  And unlike AZ mode, the Dwarf will track accurately and efficiently toward zenith.  You can do longer exposures, you can image through the zenith and take total live stack times of many hours.

Traveling?  1° latitude = 60 miles (97 km)  Got a dark site 240 miles (386 km) north or south?  Tilting the tripod out of level by 4° compensates for your change in latitude and is barely noticeable.  ZWO’s equatorial mode initiates with a red latitude setup procedure that takes the guesswork out of this tilt adjustment.  The EZ Mount is precisely formed for your home location but that doesn’t mean that you can’t travel.
