The EZ Pier Mount is supplied with a mounting flange and may be screwed directly onto a length of  ¾”  pipe.  While ¾” NPT pipe is standard in the USA other countries may use pipe that is not compatible.  The flange may be removed for directly installing the mount to wood with screws.

Embedding a 6-foot length of pipe or timber 2-feet into the ground is the simplest way to construct a pier.  The pier mount will be at a comfortable height and the pier itself will be stable.

If using ¾” pipe, screw a pipe cap over the threaded top end of the pipe so as to not damage the threads if you will be hammering on the pipe.  Insure the pipe is vertical before filling the hole. 

If using timber for a pier, use a fence post or 4X4 pressure treated lumber.  Simply remove the pipe flange from the bottom of the mount and use 3 wood screws to secure the mount to the pier head.  The top of the pier should be level or at least close to level if you can arrange it. 

In the USA, ¾” pipe and fence posts and 4X4 pressure treated timber are readily available at a local Home Depot or Lowes. 

There are alternatives to a pier embedded into the ground.  The mount may be screwed directly onto an existing wood railing.  Or a pipe can be inserted into a ¾” floor flange, with the flange being secured to a deck (or to a railing if you are simply trying to get the mount above an obstruction). 

Standard pipe lengths of 12”, 18”, 24” and 36”, and ¾” floor flanges are readily available online as well as at Home Depot, etc.  A 6’ length of pipe sells for $18 and shorter lengths are less.

Leveling the pier top is helpful for initial alignment but it’s not a factor EQ mode performance. As long as the polar alignment is good the configuration you will get optimum tracking performance.  Not a worry if you’re not perfectly level.

Assembly of the mount to the pier

The EZ Pier Mount rotates and rocks on a central pivot screw that passes through the arm into the mounting plate.  If you wish to mount your pier directly to a post or railing you simply remove the ¾” mounting pipe flange supplied with your mount and secure the mounting plate directly to a post with 3 wood screws. 

Alignment of your mount.

Roughly align the Pier Mount to North or South.  All fine alignment adjustment is done with mount alignment screws.
